Angkor Wat, a temple complex in Cambodia and the largest religious monument in the world, was built by the Khmer King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century. It is famous for its architecture and the histories all over the walls of the temple. Angkor Wat is located 5.5 kilometers north of Siem Reap city, stretching over 1 kilometer square. There are many ways to get to Angkor Wat from Siem Reap city.

  • Tour buses: it is featured with tour guide, air-conditioned comfort, but you will travel with large crowds and lack of options, and it will cost you $25-$70 per day.

  • Car with driver: you can rent a car with driver for a single or multiple days. All drivers are familiar with the area; they can suggest you which places are good to visit. The price is around $45 to $50 per day.

  • Motorbike, electric bike or bicycle: you can rent one for $10 per day for the motorbike, $7 per day for electric bike and $5 for bicycle. Traveling by motorbike, electric bike or bicycle is a little bit exhausting, especially traveling by bicycle; moreover, you will need a map with you too if you are not familiar with the area around Angkor, otherwise you might lose your time if you get lost.

  • Tuk Tuk: you can rent a tuk tuk with driver. It is a little bit more comfortable then riding motorbike or bicycle, and you can also get a reasonable price according to your negotiation with the tuk tuk driver.

However, to enter the Angkor area, passes are required for non-local tourists. You need to purchase them at the ticket counter (7km from Angkor Wat), the working hour of the ticket counter is from 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM in low season (September - May) and from 5:00 AM to 6:30 PM in high season. There are 3 types of the ticket:
- 1-day pass is $37
- 3-day pass is $62 and is valid for any 3 days within a week
- 7-day pass is $72 and is valid over a one-month period

What is the perfect season to visit Angkor Wat?
The peak visiting season is from November to February, when the weather is dry and cold, but the prices of the accommodation and transportation are high. From March to May, the weather is very hot, it is reaching 40°C, but you will be able to celebrate Khmer New Year during April; a lot of Khmer traditional shows and games are going to be hold around Angkor Wat area. From June to October, it is the rainy season. However, no matter what season you visit Angkor Wat, you should get to the Angkor Wat from the early morning (around 4:00 AM) in order to see and take the pictures of the sunrise because it is very beautiful.

Important note: if you are visiting Siem Reap province, do not miss to pay a visit at Angkor Wat because you might get regret for not visiting one of the most amazing ancient temple in the world.
